We’ll blacklist contractors over shoddy work – Amoako-Atta

Minister for Roads and Highways, Mr Kwasi Amoako-Atta Minister for Roads and Highways, Mr Kwasi Amoako-Atta

Minister for Roads and Highways, Mr Kwasi Amoako-Atta says his Ministry will blacklist any contractor found to have done a shoddy work.

He said this forms part of the many stringent measures being deployed by his Ministry to end the poor work done by some contractors in the country.

“If you are a contractor and you do a shoddy work once, you’ll not even be given a second chance.

Apart from the fact that we would take whatever steps that are necessary legally to deal with you, once it is proven that you did a shoddy work just to cheat the people of Ghana, you’ll be blacklisted and there is no way you will even be given a second chance to work for the people of this country,” he disclosed this to the media after inspecting some ongoing road projects within the Tema enclave.

They include the Tema Roundabout road improvement network, the Africa Unity, Agba Mami/ BBC/ Police Station/ Polyclinic, as well as A-Lang roads.

Notwithstanding the poor attitude to work by Contractors, he said it is also incumbent on the state to ensure contractors in the country are also treated fairly to deliver efficiently for the people of Ghana.

Meanwhile, he said the rebuilding of the Tema Motorway is still on course with necessary procedures being followed.

“We’re working on it. The entire motorway stretch is going to be done again. We are even expanding it to a six lane, that is three lanes on the other side is still under construction and pretty soon it will be done,” he said.
